This project started as a 5-second animation for Monday's Challenge prompt "Wild". Only I really struggled to keep it 5 seconds long. All these scenes started popping into my head and soon it became apparent that it's going to have to be a bit longer and more involved.
I think the inspiration came from watching my kids during the 2020 lockdown. They were going nuts, of course, but also they became super resourceful and much more creative in their play. Lots of household items acquired a new life and purpose.
I had a lot of fun with this project, thinking of details and new scenes as I went along. I also kept the original color palette from the prompt, adding just a few more shades and tints to make things stand out or blend in.
I used a lot of reference photos to get ideas for the interiors and had to take a photo of my husband for the bow and arrow pose. For the running deer clip, I used rotoscoping on my iPad to get that "real" look. And then there was a lot of Duik and After Effects.
For sound design I used the great resource Freesound.org, they have tons of sound clips and I can almost always find something that works. And as I learned from School of Motion, it's best to layer audio clips to get the outcome sound more authentic. So I spent a lot of time looking for various clips and combining them.
I am really happy with the way it turned out and hope you enjoy it too!
